Pillars of Strength – A Special Day for K

As we have often told, this blog began as a dedication to our very own special Nikita, my first Siberian Husky who passed many years ago. The first stories posted on a precursor website were meant to simply be cathartic writings, but I was stunned to discover that people actually read the posts and responded to them. Frankly, I had never even heard of dog blogging (or cat blogging or horse blogging) and had no idea that there was this tight-knit community out there. One of the greatest things about blogging about The Herd is meeting so many people who share in our compassion for each other – even if we never meet in “real life.”

K

One of those friends we have “met” is KB – of Romping and Rolling in the Rockies.  We love checking in to see photographs or videos of mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and bears.  And, of course, checking in on the adventures of K and R – the Labraduo who share in the adventures.  When you see these beautiful dogs romping in the snow, you never think of them being sick.  Thus, we were as shocked as everyone to hear of K’s medical challenges.

Look deep in that starry eye of K, though, and you see fighter – that indomitable spirit that lives in the now.  A look that says she plans to beat the osteosarcoma that has been thrown her way.  We love that fighting spirit.

And so, K, as you prepare for your next chemotherapy treatment, just know that there are a lot of us out here who are wishing the Power of the Paw for you. Much like KB reached out to us in the loss of our dear, sweet Kodiak, we are reaching out to you as your Pillars of Strength. We are a united blogging community supporting K – and so many others – in their battle with the Big C.

Let’s join paws to eradicate cancer from all of our pals.

Below is the list of bloggers that we are aware of that are participating in the Pillars of Strength day.  Please join us – all of us – in this Pillars of Strength day to battle cancer in K – and all of our friends.

Many thanks for your part in starting this Blog Hop for KB and K. Though I don’t have a dog companion currently, my heart still sings with the pleasure I found with Breezy, my Golden (now deceased).

Thank you for organizing this worldwide tribute to the amazing K (who I am lucky enough to know in real life). Those pictures showing the star in her eyes are so beautiful. Indeed it’s just a sign of all the special strength and soul inside her.

What a beautiful post to give K the love and support she needs right now! Your thoughts about the blog world echo mine – I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started bloggin’. The wonderful, exceptional group of friends I’ve come to know is astoundin’, to say the very least. I only wish my editor would schedule more time for me so that I could visit each blog every day.

    Happy Valentine’s day ♥!

Wow. What a wonderful, moving post. My parents lost my lab brother to the big C before I joined the family, so this touched us very deeply.

We have yet to “meet” K and KB, but we thank you for doing this for them.

  26. Random Felines on February 14, 2012 at 8:51 am

Wow – we love supporting our fellow anipals…..we are purring for K and hope this helps her mom a little!!

  27. KB on February 14, 2012 at 8:51 am

I woke up this morning, and took a glance at my computer… Hmm, lots of comments. I wonder why, I thought?

Then, I looked around the dog blog world a little more, and I am completely floored. You are so wonderful that I can barely see through my tears. I can barely write anything to anyone. I am truly blown away.

Like you, I started my blog without a clue that this community existed. We are so very lucky.

Today, we remember your Nikita and your Kodiak, and we honor the love that they gave you. And, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for your incredible gesture. Thank you D.K. and The Herd.

One thing we learn from our pets. Live each day to it’s fullest and take just one day at a time. Live in the moment and savor all that you see, smell and hear. And what a playground to have in the Rockies where there’s so much beauty to take in.

    Sending prayers to K.
