Drying Out and Camping

The storms have passed, but Norris Lake in Tennessee is certainly over flood stage.

Yes, that is the top of the fence sticking out above the water - and, yes, the fence lines that road that is way under water.

Sitting on this bench did not seem particularly inviting.

And this camp site did not quite seem the right one for us.

Despite the pictures, most of the camp ground is in great shape.  We are high and dry and enjoying a long camping weekend.  Our camp site looks more like this:

Relaxed in our camp site.

And, yes, for those of you who counted, Ruby and Tartok (and the hu-grandmom) from The Herd Annex are also camping with us.

A Short Post

It was a dark and stormy night – and we know many of you out there know what we are talking about.  The winds are howling, the rains are pouring, and we lost power.  Thus, this post is going to be very brief (conserving laptop battery and who knows how long the laptop cellphone card will work).

Plus we are preparing for a little adventure starting tomorrow.  Anyone want to guess what this face means (long time readers should know):

Cheesewhiz face!

Yes, that means we are cranking up the S-RV – Siberian Recreational Vehicle – for a long four day weekend of camping.  The storms are supposed to be over here by sunrise and we are headed out to enjoy a nice weekend.

Oh – - of course we will be posting pictures from our camping trip.

6 a.m. update – The sun is rising on a clear, calm morning and the power is back on at the house.  So, time for us to load up the RV.  Our hearts go out to Alabama and everyone else in the path of yesterday’s storms.

Traveling Home

The Herd has enjoyed their week of camping at the beach (despite missing the snow).

The Herd Annex enjoyed their FIRST EVER beach trip, too.

But after a week of vacation, it is time for the humans to head back home so that they can prepare for a week of earning kibble and bully sticks for us.  We hope to be back to the beach before it gets hot down here, but for now we will go back and play in the snow.  Unfortunately, we have to prepare for the six hour drive home.  You know what that means . . .

Time for the patented Cheesewhiz RV face

For members of our Facebook Fan Page, you can skip this section, but we had to repeat it for our blog only readers.  Yesterday, someone stopped the hu-grandmom and noted that Ruby had one blue eye and one brown eye.  They asked if the blue eye meant Ruby was deaf on that side.  Not blind – we have heard that many times.  Deaf.

You talking to me?

Our favorite potential reply on Facebook was, “Only selectively.”

Just because we are coming home, don’t worry, we will be sharing beach pictures all week.  We are like that bad relative who insists that you watch the slide show of their “exciting” vacation.  Well, that, and the hu-dad says that the punishment for taking time off work is you have to work twice as hard the week before and after the vacation to make sure that you never, ever, think of taking time away again.  It is something called an “incentive” program.  Therefore, there will be no new pictures of us this week and we will be recycling beach pictures.

Weather Revenge

Ok, pups, this is going to sound really weird.  We are getting around 2 feet (~60 cm) of fresh snow at the house.  Too bad we are not there to enjoy it. Yep, our humans decided not to stick around and enjoy all of that snow.

Our humans have once again loaded us into the RV to “escape” to the beach for the post-Christmas week.  Something about the only week they can get off work and escape the cold and snow.  We like the beach enough, but who would want to escape 2 feet of fresh snow?  We just do not understand.

So we made our humans walk us around Charleston, SC this morning (Natasha still being restricted to short walks because of the “acorn incident“).  But what fun would that be without some snow?

Ok, you might need to click on the picture to see the falling snow.

But if you look closely, it was falling at a steady rate.

Kiska, while happy that she did not need to be sprayed with Pam to prevent ice balls, still thinks this does not qualify as snow.

Ruby Tuesday – Opinions

Wondering how much The Annex is enjoying their new RV?

The manufacturer was wondering, too, so they sent this survey.

Hmmmm. Wonder how that happened.

Walking with Red Heads

Something about those red headed Siberian Huskies is just amusing, so today we feature pictures of the Saturday morning walk at Big Ridge State Park, where we are camping.

Ruby walking with determination (while Tartok plays in the leaves)

Rusty and Kodiak playing King of the Wall

Rusty recaptures the King title and knocks Kodiak off.

Kodiak is laughing because he got Rusty to look into the woods for something.

Mobile Picnic Tables

Yes, we are out camping again this weekend (both The Herd and The Herd Annex).  When we first arrive at the campground, the first order of business is to set up the picket line and let all of the dogs  hang out while we get everything else arranged.

Picket Line Time

So we pulled into the campsites, spotted a picnic table, connected one end of the picket line to the picnic table and the other end to a stake in the ground.

See anything wrong with this table?

No the problem is not with the house shoes (despite the fact that the hu-dad really does wear them around the campsite – with his infamous camouflage socks).  That is a great guess, but that is not the problem with the table.  Look carefully at the concrete pad.  Notice the broken brackets (no, we did not break them)?  The ones designed to hold the table in place?  Guess what happens when you connect 8 Siberian Huskies to a picnic table the is not bolted down?  Correct – it moves.

Seems the hu-dad was setting things up around the campsite when he heard the picnic table being drug.  Amazingly he did NOT take pictures of that, but scrambled to move us to a different picnic table.

Tartok shows off the other picnic table in our campsite.

Funny, that one will not move.  Oh well, we will see what we can dream up Saturday.  While we are dreaming and scheming, please go visit some of our pals via the Blog Hop (and sign up yourself).

Why We Go Camping

Enough said?

Always Too Many

Trying to get a picture of everypup is always challenging. Like here, where Kiska is off to the side.

Kiska is still missing and Tartok is playing with Ruby.

Kiska made it back, but Kodiak and Cheoah are now hiding.

Sorry, never got a group shot of everyone on a walk.  Will try on the next camp out.

Small Town America

We are from a small town (population 607), so we love and appreciate small towns and small town festivals.  While camping this past weekend, we drove though Martin, GA (population 311 based on what we could find out) and stumbled on their fall festival.  What a terrific event and we thought we would share a couple of pictures:

Normally, there is no traffic here, but the sides of Main Street were covered with parked cars. And traffic was slowed with non-car traffic.

Isn't this just picture perfect?
