Tartok

We have our usual level of excitement going on at The Herd Annex.

Crossed paws

And this is just for Khyra – a little paw cross action from Tartok.

Whoa

Whoa! Do you think Khyra may visit us some day?

Just in case you are one of the few who do not know who Khyra is, please click here.

We realize that many of you are suffering from too much – or too little – rain and lots of heat, but we were fortunate enough to have one of those perfect weekends up here on the mountain. The valleys were very warm, but we saw high temperatures in the mid-70′s F (23-24 C), mostly sunny skies, and the first rain free days in weeks at the house. That meant we were outside all weekend long and The Herd got to do lots of walking and playing. The end result?

QNTE

The Queen sleeps tonight.

P.S. – Next Saturday is when there is lots of excitement – the Seventh Annual Downtown (Waynesville, NC) Dog Walk for Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation.  Lots of fun, lots of dogs, lots of contests, and a little fundraising for one of our favorite charities.  If you are anywhere near us, please come on up and enjoy some cooler air and a terrific time this coming Saturday (August 4).  We will be there with bells on (really – bear bells – you can hear us before you see us) and would love to meet you.

QNTE

And what could possibly have QNTE’s attention in the middle of a walk.

Turkey

A whole family of turkeys – with lots of youngsters – walked across the field in front of us.

Black and White

This may look like everyone is standing still, but the leash in the foreground gives away how much Siberian dancing occurred when the turkeys were first spotted.

This post is just for our friends Zim and Dave at The Army of Four.

Chaos

We know we look fairly disorganized in this photograph, but can you tell why we are so excited?

Adrill

Yes, the Army of Four’s buddy “Adrill” is coming along for a walk with us. Just further proof that we are a working breed.

F&C

Yes, Frankie is with the black team and Cheoah is with the red team, but they are often found walking side by side.

Buddies

Buddies – through and through.

Tartok

Tartok surveys his kingdom from his deck – with the perfect shooter rest position.

Tartok 2

Don’t worry. He can watch the dinner table from that spot as well.

Rusty

Rather than sleeping long ways, Rusty some how found this a comfortable way to sleep in the Jeep.

Rusty 2

Don’t ask how it is comfortable.

No animals

We need to warn you about today’s post – we are not in it.

Festival

When our county seat, Waynesville, has a festival, they have an ordinance that prohibits animals. So we just hung out at home while the humans went to the festival.

Stage

This is hu-dad’s favorite festival, Folkmoot USA.

Kids

This year’s festival includes performers from New Zealand, Belgium, France, Indonesia, Peru, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Serbia and Hawaii – so colorful outfits on our streets are common.

Performers

And the performers thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to be in front of enthusiastic crowds.

No go

We would have been well behaved – honest.

If you want to learn more about this 28 year old festival, please click here.  The festival continues through next weekend, so there is plenty of time to catch some amazing performances.

Oh, by the way, the hu-dad says he wouldn’t take us in the middle of a crowded festival even if we were allowed.  Something about he could only imagine the number of pockets we would pick.
