Cheoah here - Let me show you how I spend a part of my Sundays.

Because of several years of health challenges, our hu-dad’s dad was admitted to a nursing home about a year ago.  While that decision was certainly a difficult one, we are fortunate that he is at a very well run facility.  The facility encourages family members to bring pets (that are well-trained and mannered) to visit because it helps a resident so much.  Because of her temperament and behaviors, we selected Cheoah to be the representative of The Herd.

I love chatting with the hu-granddad.

Fans of our Facebook Page have seen update pictures from the facility, but we thought we would do a post on Cheoah and her visits.  She is really great around the equipment, various noises, and moving wheel chairs and walkers.

Look - another friend coming to see me.

What we did not really anticipate was how much the other residents started looking forward to Cheoah’s visits.  It is very rewarding to see the residents smile while spending time with Cheoah (to respect their privacy, we don’t show their faces).

We had a great moment a couple of weeks ago when the hu-dad entered the unit and one of the resident’s didn’t see Cheoah behind him.  She cried out, “Where’s the dog?”  It always helps for the hu-dad exactly who is the important visitor.

Cheoah spending some time with another resident.

We know that several of our readers also spend some time in nursing homes and hospitals spreading some canine cheer.  Since we both spend time canine visiting in a facility and we have a relative who is a resident, we thank you for taking the time.  It means a lot.

Kiska here - Let me tell you about our walk yesterday.

We decided to do a different hike than originally planned since it was a beautiful spring-like day.

We even walked across trippy-trapp bridges.

Our trail took us along the banks of the French Broad River.

We loved watching the water splash by.

Whoa - Kodiak is sure he heard a fish splash.

Hope you enjoyed coming along on our hike. We sure enjoyed it.

Snow at the ridge tops

So time to do a little hiking so we can go play in the snow.

We realized that in yesterday's post we left everyone believing we had no snow. It's thin, but we still have many closed roads to hike on.

We may have to look for the right places to hike, but we can still get the Kiska grin going.

And the redheads can still be redheads.

Remember this?

The snow at the end of our driveway was taller than our cars just a little over a month ago.

This is just wrong.

Yes, our February has been one of the warmest and driest Februarys we can remember – as opposed to so many of you who have been battling winter weather the last few weeks.  We are trying to decide if winter has just abandoned us – or if March is going to be one bitter payback.  (Or, in Herd speak, whether March is going to be beautifully cold and snowy).

As regular readers know, our cousins, Tartok and Ruby, live with the hu-grandmom on the other side of the valley.  Our cousins are like us – always up to something and creating great excitement.  Ready to check in and see what fun they are having?

Tartok? Do you hear some yammering from our cousins at The Herd?

Ruby, it is after 8 pm - well past my bed time.

Well, wake me if anything happens.

Enough of that excitement.  Now back to our regular programming.

Our regular readers are quite familiar with the world famous Cheoah Snow Slide,

And, yes, we still have enough snow in places for Cheesewhiz to practice her snow slides yesterday.

The problem is our field, which we walk on Sunday mornings, is totally lacking snow.

Apparently her collar is not conducive to grass sliding. Oops.

Saturday was a beautiful day and the humans had some errands they needed to do in Asheville.  Since most of the roads to our favorite trails are still snow covered and closed, we are good with that because we get to go to some great trails in the Asheville City Parks.  What we did not expect to see was a professional sled dog practicing for upcoming races.  Brace yourself for the raw power of a sled dog.  Ready?

Check out the rippling muscles and awesome strength as he slams into his harness.

We know, it is a breathtaking sight.

Just remember, this is a professional.

P.S. – All kidding aside, this little guy looked like he was having the time of his life and his humans were enjoying the beautiful day.
