Sunday was predicted to be the hottest day of the year and, pups, they were right.  So we did our Sunday morning stroll up past the ski resort and across our field, had some brunch in Downtown Waynesville, picked up some dog food, and then crashed at home Sunday afternoon.  High temps on Tuesday are supposed to be 10-15 degrees F lower – YES.  So, today, we just share a few pics from our Sunday Stroll.

Walking past the piles of water pipe at Cataloochee Ski.

All of the water lines will help them make even more snow this winter.

Looking from the back of our property and seeing water lines to the top of their mountain.

Then we have to visit our favorite tree (by the way, you can see the ski trails - look just to the right of the top of the tree)

Qannik enjoying the shade from our tree (and you can see how big the trunk of the tree is).

By the way, about that field mowing.

Kiska thinks the hu-dad is getting really slack in his mowing duties.

And back to the house for nap time.

Followed by, well, more nap time.

  1. Is it just me or do we keep hearing that repeatedly this summer? I could swear my weather man has talked about ten hottest days now. A little snow on those slopes might not look too bad right now…

  2. Super Sunday!
Thanks for taking us along on the stroll, great views!

    Cheers,
    Maxx

  3. Sorry about the excessive heat. We are very comfy up here in Anchorage although we have had lots of rain this summer. It has been a washout… but we dash out between storms and get our walks in. Your dogs are just gorgeous, and look so cozy during nap time. PS thanks for sharing your license plates, very clever and appropriate!!! Have a great week! xoxo

  4. Naptime is an excellent way to unwind and spend a sunday!

  5. What a beautiful place to have a stroll. Thanks for the pictures!

  6. um, Q’s back end looks about the size of that trunk! ;) I love to make fun of his pantyloons. they’re so big! you know what they say about big pantyloons… (hint, the same thing they say about big muscles)… His pantyloons look ripe for plucking. Juno had her 2nd coat blow. I plucked. how do you resist?

  7. Well we have lots in common that’s clear. Not only are we lucky enough to live in lovely parts of the world, but we (or is it our humans) are occasional partial to a spot of alliteration)!
But I think it is a little hotter in your region. You huskies should come to Scotland for your summer break.
    Toodle pip!
    Bertie.
PS Can I let you into a secret? Our weekend walk actually took place on Saturday, but we pretended it was Sunday ‘cos Gail said it made for a better rhythm in the title of the post!

  8. I think when you can hide half a dog in the grass is a pretty good indicator of the lawn needing to be mowed! BOL!

  9. How do you guys go from looking noble in one photo, to looking so cute when you’re snoozing in another? It’s amazing!

  10. Nothing else to do when it gets so hot other than nap! Glad you got in a good walk first though!

  12. Tell me the Hu-Dad did not go out and mow in that heat! I think they keep jerking our chains about it being “the hottest day of the year” so that they can keep mocking us back in the back room of the news station!

  13. Woos Herd! I am sure woo all miss the snow, welcome to my world, ugh hot and yucky… That little friend named Chinook in your last post looked like me! Wooos, I thought I was visiting and forgot! I think I need to move north fur the summer, any recommendations?

  14. It do be much kewler and not so hoomid here today after the thunner boomers yesterday. Mebbe it be heading your way. Evenshually.

  15. It must be mighty hot to keep the Herd from hiking! I’m glad to hear that it will cool down soon. It’s not supposed to be that warm in the mountains!

I love the Kiska sleeping photos. She appears to be an expert at finding comfort!

  16. Hmmm, I can just feel that lazy heat by looking at your photos. Here, it hasn’t been hot at all–it barely even feels like summer. Very weird. It’ll probably get super hot in late September and October, when we’re dying for fall to arrive.

  17. good thing woo’s tree is big enough to shade the entire T-herd! that would definitely be my fav spot.

  18. What we wouldn’t give for a little snow….it’s supposed to be 97 here today with the heat index of 117. Us siberians are wanting to take a vacation to Siberia right about now (we might even be able to talk the humans into it)!! We totally understand the nap part!!!!!

Looks like you guys were nice and tired by the time you got back home.

  24. we heard the eastern states were crazy hot this weekend. luckily I was back west :)

  25. What a wonderful walkie! So glad it’s going to start cooling off a little bit!

  26. So exactly how hot was the “hottest day of the year”?

  27. Fear not Northern breed brotheren (and sisteren)! If our weather pattern is heading your way cooler is on the march East! In the meantime, take lots of naps, drink plenty of fluids, eat pupsicles, and don’t over exert!

  28. Oh – nap time is the best! :-)

That is so interesting to see the change in landscape – I can remember when you showed the same places covered in snow – not that long ago, it seems! :)

By the way, my human, Hsin-Yi, was wondering if it’s OK for her to email your Hu-Dad to ask some questions about moving to a self-hosted blog? She is keen to but she is scared of what it could involve as she doesn’t feel very confident with HTML codes and stuff like that. She knows a bit and is happy to learn but is worried about messing up and losing the blog or something! ;)

    Thanks –

    Slobbers,
    Honey the Great Dane

  29. Glad you had a nice walk! The temps are going back up here in the Northeast to the mid 90s again by Wednesday, so our break was only a few days (high 80s, some break!) A “scorcher” they are predicting for Wednesday. Great. Not Husky weather for certain! Stay cool!

  30. We got a walk too, but it is still pretty warm and humid here. It IS better but . . . Bring on the snow – those slopes look like they could use some white stuff.

Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

  31. Good thing you found that big shady tree! NC looks so pretty! Can’t wait to come visit your pretty state!
