Qannik – Sometimes you need to focus on getting down the trail
Other times you should take the time to smell the, uh, trees
Our best guess? The horses that use this trail brush up against these branches.

First, that National Weather Service group started predicting that we were going to get 1-2 inches of snow. Then they said it might be 3 inches. Then they clarified that the snowfall was going to be spotty, so not sure who was and was not going to get any. But since we last saw any snow on October 18, we were so ready for some – any – to fall.
So when it started snowing Thursday afternoon, we got really, really excited. But it did not stick. Not at all. And we started thinking that this was a really, really bad joke.
Then the insult really kicked in. We heard the snow machines kick in at Cataloochee Ski Resort. They were making snow. Lots of it. So we went over on Friday to check it out. Guess what?
SNOW!
And at the 1pm opening time – Skiers and Snowboarders!
So we were all ready to go play in the snow when we discovered a horrifying fact – they do not have a dog sledding area. Or a Siberian Husky area. What? Or, sure, we got lots of cute dog comments and ear scratches and neck rubs – but no running in the snow. What a bummer.
Qannik – Sigh.
To all of our friends in the USA
May you eat so much that you can’t move off the couch!

We are thankful to all of the volunteers who rescued us and saw that we made our way to Chez Herd.
And we are thinking of all of those in shelters and rescues who are looking for a good home.

While we normally show you our longer weekend hikes, we get to go on normal walks on week nights – a real challenge this time of year because it gets dark so early. Here you can see the last of the sun setting on a hill to our East. That is actually a part of the ranch that we talk about – this is exactly the opposite of the picture we have shown you of our house taken from up there.
But who cares about the mountains? Let’s walk!

After a weekend spent in the S-RV camping, we were all glad to get home Monday morning. But you know how it is coming home after taking a little vacation time, so many things to do, so much work to accomplish. It is just really difficult to relax. Right, Herd?
Natasha – On the couch, of course.
Saturday was sunny and beautiful. Sunday was rainy and cool. The joys of camping. But it does create a great study in contrasts. Pardon our use of the same pictures from yesterday’s post, but here we go:
SATURDAY – LAKE VIEW
SUNDAY – LAKE VIEW
SATURDAY – THE HERD
SUNDAY – THE HERD
We got to the campground – Lake Hartwell State Recreation Area – last night after dark. We settled into a campsite near the lake front, but were very pleasantly surprised when we opened the RV door this morning and had this view:
The Herd, of course, really did not care about the view so much as the activity:
Hope your weekend is going great!
Long time followers know exactly what that face means. Yes, Cheoah is showing her S-RV (Siberian Recreational Vehicle) face! We are taking the S-RV out for a weekend of camping. Nothing like loading six Siberian Huskies into an RV to create a relaxing, peaceful weekend. We expect to spend our time doing things like this:
Drop line relaxation
Riding in comfort
Watching the passing traffic
Enjoying a little campfire
And, of course, lots of walks
And, yes, we are ignoring the weather forecast that is calling for a steady rain beginning Saturday evening and lasting into Sunday. If we ignore, it will stay away, right? Hope everyone has a great weekend!
