Our S, recently deceased, took it a step further. He'd stare into the woods, doing what we called 'spooky barking' and he wouldn't stop until we put a good distance between us and the spot. Given our worries about mountain lions, we'd freak out every time. I think that he's chuckling right now remembering our reactions! My dogs do exactly the same thing.
