When we came back to our RV Wednesday evening, a storm was rolling in. Still we took our evening stroll down the beach, though it was not as pleasant as every other night this week has been. The surf was beginning to pick up, the sky was darker, and the air was frigid. But the biggest challenge we had was the wind. First, we had to walk facing the wind as it stung our faces, but then we turned and walked with the wind at our back. But that created its own unique problems:
This posted is dedicated to our blogging buddy, Captain Maverick. One of the great things about being at the beach is that you can find buried pirate treasure. Or, in this case, not so buried treasure.
As we mentioned Sunday, we are staying this week at Huntington Beach State Park. We are often asked why we prefer state parks to the commercial RV parks that offer so many more amenities (like, say, wireless internet rather than struggling to get a Verizon Wireless Laptop Card to connect to the internet). Let us explain:
Developed Residential Beach (Commercial Beach has all of the high rises)
State Park Beach (Both pictures taken from same place – border of state park)
Like he does with everything else in life, Rusty turns going to the beach into his own game. Hope you all enjoy watching Rusty at the beach as much as he enjoys being there (or, frankly, anywhere else).
Doing a little digging
Walking on the wet sand
Watching the wave come in
Don’t let the wave touch your feety-feet though
And chasing that mean wave back to where it belongs
And, of course, play bows while on the drop line at the campsite.
First of all, yes we made it to the beach. For those of you asking, we are at Huntington Beach State Park (South Carolina) in the S-RV and will be making excursions in the Jeep to Myrtle Beach and Charleston for sure (and maybe even Savannah). Unfortunately, the drive from our house to the beach is six hours, so we got here just as the sun was setting. No pictures from the beach today (and a little challenged anyway since our Verizon Wireless laptop card is showing a whole one bar of coverage – pretty hard to do anything fast on the internet).
But we want to take a moment to talk about our poor cousin, Ruby. Now look at this face and ask yourself if she could possibly cause any trouble:
Apparently, the answer is yes. Notice the connected leash. While indoors. This has nothing to do with her counter surfing skills – which are quite extraordinary. No, our hu-nephew – who is just over a year old – was at our hu-grandparents house. Notice the walker just off to Ruby’s side. Ruby is still working on that “don’t jump on people to say hello” rule, and with a bi-ped puppy, that can be a real problem. Even though she has never, never, never done anything like that to our hu-nephew, to prevent anything happening, Ruby was tethered to our hu-dad while she was in the house.
We had a fantastic Christmas Day and hope that all of you did as well. But our hu-dad shared a special Christmas present for us – and, today, we start enjoying that present for the next week. Here is hint # 1 -
Yes, that is the patented Cheoah S-RV face. As our good friend Fiona knows, S-RV is our term for a “House on Wheels” – a Siberian Recreational Vehicle. So we are taking off on yet another S-RV adventure.
Now here is the weird part. Our humans think that their world has had too much of this in it lately:
And they are wanting a week of this:
Yep – the beach. Now we do not understand why you would leave snow for a week at the beach in the middle of winter. What are the humans thinking? But at least we get to go and play in the ocean and in sand and sit by a campfire and . . . wait, this sounds like it could be fun. Bet we will be doing a lot of this:
Since this past week has meant very little work for the humans, we have been receiving tons of attention, belly rubs, treats, and general Christmas spirit. But, WAIT! We will not be ridiculed with Christmas decorations just because it is Christmas, will we?
Finally, YouTube cooperated and we were able to upload the video we meant to post yesterday. We went for what we thought would be a simple little walk, but it took a little more effort because we were the first people / dogs / creatures that had ventured this way after this weekend’s snowfall. We had a blast though we were all a little tired in the end.
For those of you concerned that Queen Natasha the Evil is working on an escape from Sibe Quentin, she has a long ways to go here. That fence is buried 12 inches (30 cm) in the ground in a concrete trench that is 6 inches (15 cm) wide. Our humans have long since learned to never say never, but they have worked long and hard on the fortress. It is a Sibe thing.
PeeEssWoo – Thanks so much for all of the comments and votes for the header pictures over the past couple of days. We want to leave open the voting for a couple of days and will keep you posted on the results.
PeeEssWooTwo – Ok, we had a video for Walking Wednesday that is all edited and ready to go. But YouTube was being, well, uncooperative. So look forward to Trotting Thursday (or maybe Trudging Thursday considering how slow the video is loading).
As we mentioned yesterday, we are playing with updating our header picture on the blog. The current picture was taken during the summer months, so it is very green. We took advantage of the snow this week to take some new pictures. Of the four pictures below, which is your favorite (and feel free to tell us why)? Your comments are very welcomed! As always, you can click on any picture to get a bigger version.
